A Look at Literacy…

During the month of September, the literacy focus is on our first unit, “Kindness.” We have read both fiction and nonfiction about the topic. Ask your child how they can show kindness each and every day!  We are practicing reading and writing words with long vowels. It is very important to study and practice the weekly spelling words in order to further recognize words with the spelling patterns that we are focusing on in class. In writing, we are beginning our first unit on narrative writing. Students will be asked to write true stories that they have experienced in their lives.  We will concentrate on adding details, important writing mechanics, and making the writing exciting for their readers!
